This will be my daughter’s first Easter, and I’m so excited to include her in our family traditions this year. We are currently following shelter-in-place orders during the Coronavirus pandemic, but we still have lots of ways to celebrate Easter at home — including Easter baskets!
My husband and I had a fun time putting together a small basket for our daughter and thought it would be fun to share with you guys what went into it.
I want to note that there are so many different Easter traditions out there with different histories and meanings behind them. I did a little bit of research on the tradition of Easter baskets in the Catholic faith and am going to share that here as well. Then, we’ll take a look at what I put in my daughter’s Easter basket for her very first Easter! Read through to the very end for an additional 10 baby Easter basket stuffer ideas.
Easter Basket Traditions
Easter is celebrated in so many beautiful ways across cultures and regions. In the Catholic faith, it’s tradition for parishioners to bring a basket of their Easter foods to church on Holy Saturday (the day before Easter) to be blessed by a priest. Foods commonly include boiled eggs, lamb, and bread. The basket of food is then taken home and eaten on Easter Sunday.
This tradition originated in the Slavic region and is practiced in the Roman Catholic tradition as well. In some cases, just the baskets are blessed and then taken home and filled with gifts and candy for children.

For a baby under one, you don’t have to spend a lot of money or get a ton of stuff to make your baby’s basket special. We kept our daughter’s basket simple, affordable, and thoughtful. Let’s look inside!
Easter Outfit
My good (and stylish) friend gifted us this sweet Old Navy yellow baby girl dress for our daughter, and I thought it would be perfect for her to wear on Easter Sunday. Even though we can’t attend mass this year because of Coronavirus, we’ll still dress up at home and watch a recorded mass online.
Plastic Eggs Filled with Puffs / Cheerios
My daughter is too young for candy, but an Easter basket without Easter eggs felt incomplete. So instead of candy, I filled them with baby-safe food like puffs and teething biscuits.
Stuffed Bunny
My daughter has a real love for stuffed animals. Whenever she picks one up, she hugs it tight to her chest and smushes her cheek against it. It honestly might be the most adorable sight I’ve ever seen. This plush tie-dye bunny rabbit is outlandishly soft and colorful too! My husband found it at the grocery store, but it’s also available on Amazon.
William Wakes Up children’s book by Linda Ashman
I learned about The William Series books from a coworker who gifted us the first book in the series, A Cozy Goodnight. It quickly became a bedtime favorite in our house.
The sequel, William Wakes Up, is a timely gift since it’s all about the arrival of spring. After napping with his animal friends, it’s time to wake up and welcome spring (plus do a little spring cleaning). Here’s the synopsis from the writer:
“William and his animal friends have had the whole winter to nap. Now it’s time for them to wake up and welcome a very special guest. There’s lots to do to get ready, from scrubbing the floors to decorating the house to baking a tasty treat. But it’s so hard to leave a cozy bed. . . . Will everyone get up in time to do their part?”
